Scope & pricing

Website Redesign Costs in South Africa

Evaluate existing sites and cost a redesign or migration without pretending it is a greenfield site. Configure scope and review confirmed labour at R850/hour excl. VAT, with unpriced items identified.

Configure your scope

A labour budget to start the conversation

For an illustrative redesign conversation: a base allocation, four additional standard pages and two complex pages. Existing content, URL changes and technical migration still need review.

34 assumed hours × R850/hour = R28,900 excluding VAT. This is a hypothetical planning allocation, not an approved package or a quote for your project.

Content rewriting, migration, redirects, integrations, licences, hosting and ongoing support are additional unless included in the written scope. Discovery, build and ongoing operation need their own scope. Changing this allowance does not price the activities below or change an issued estimate.

Build a scope you can discuss.

R850/hour excluding VAT. Unapproved hours and fees require custom quotation. Your selections are indicative.

What changes this estimate

A redesign starts with what you already have: pages worth keeping, templates that need replacing and features visitors still rely on. Tell us what needs to change before choosing quantities. A visual refresh, a move to another CMS and a rewrite of existing content can involve quite different work, even when the finished sites have the same number of pages.

The estimator helps you separate the work needed to understand the old site, build its replacement, check it and keep it running. That makes it easier to see which choices affect the initial budget and which create ongoing costs.

Describe a representative delivery

Share your existing website URL, current CMS, approximate page and template counts, and the content you want to retain. Choose a representative page to discuss: what should stay, what should change and who can approve the replacement? A page with a form or embedded tool is useful to flag early because moving its text is only part of the task.

Use the first-delivery option to describe a manageable starting point, then list any later work and what it depends on. Quantities describe activities or units of work; their hours still need approval. Selecting a plan does not turn that scope into a fixed-price offer.

Map the old site to its replacement

A redesign estimate needs two inventories: the templates that must be designed and the pages whose content must move. For example, twelve service pages might share one layout. That could mean one template to design and twelve pages to migrate, rather than twelve separate designs. Record forms, embedded tools and downloadable assets too, since they can introduce migration work beyond the visible text.

Use the sitemap worksheet to connect current URLs to intended destinations. If two old service pages become one, identify the replacement page for both URLs. A redirect should lead to a relevant page; decide what happens to anything being retired and who will approve those destinations. The launch plan should include when content changes stop, final checks, a check that enquiries arrive and when to roll back. If we cannot access the source site, we need to investigate it before estimating the migration.

Hours, costs and assumptions

Confirmed labour is calculated at R850 per hour excluding VAT. Each selected quantity is multiplied by an approved hours-per-unit value. Base, discovery and complexity allowances need their own approval. Unapproved items remain Custom quote required and prevent a fixed total; they are never silently priced as zero.

As an illustrative budget conversation, a base allocation, four additional standard pages and two complex pages might be discussed against an assumed 34 hours. At the confirmed rate, 34 × R850 = R28,900 excluding VAT. Those 34 hours are a hypothetical allowance, not approved unit hours or a redesign package. Existing content, URL changes and technical migration still need review. Content rewriting, migration, redirects, integrations, licences, hosting and ongoing support are additional unless included in the written scope.

The initial ten-hour website allocation is specific to the existing website calculator. It is not automatically applied to this service. Where managed dedicated hosting is selected, the separately stated management allocation applies to the agreed management scope.

Once-off work and monthly commitments are shown independently. Content writing, SEO, subscriptions, platform usage, travel and other external charges are included only when explicitly approved and itemised. International display currency does not change the authoritative ZAR calculation or establish a tax exemption.

Scope boundaries

  • Do not apply the 10-hour new-site minimum automatically; use a separately approved redesign minimum.
  • Distinguish page content migration from template design to avoid counting each page twice.
  • Large or inaccessible source sites require custom scoping.

Use the plan to request an estimate

A few useful answers before you decide.

The tool prepares a migration sitemap and launch checklist. Before requesting a quotation, check that the pages, templates and features you want to keep are represented, and flag anything you cannot yet confirm. We can then review the work, the access it needs and any unresolved amounts together. Your contact details stay separate from saved session selections. Payment milestones and quote validity require written confirmation.

Explore the related service or compare the original website calculator. The PDF request becomes available only when the secure quotation backend is configured; the page clearly indicates its current state.

Why does this tool show custom quote required?
The R850 hourly rate is confirmed, but a selected activity may still need approved unit hours or supplier charges. For example, a page count alone does not tell us how much work its content migration needs. The tool keeps your selections and flags the pending amounts so they can be resolved in a reviewed proposal.
Is the result a binding quotation?
No. The scope and any known charges are indicative until reviewed and confirmed in writing. An issued PDF uses server-side calculation and identifies pending items, exclusions, tax treatment and custom payment terms.

Share the scope while you plan

The interactive summary lets you download a text brief or open an email draft for review. The email action does not send an online quotation request. For a fuller handover, attach the downloaded brief and add your preferred contact details in your email app. Private PDF issuance remains conditional on a configured quotation service.
