Scope & pricing

Estimate authenticated portals, dashboards, roles and custom business applications. Configure scope and review confirmed labour at R850/hour excl. VAT, with unpriced items identified.

## Build a scope you can discuss.

R850/hour excluding VAT. Unapproved hours and fees require custom quotation. Your selections are indicative.

The interactive scope builder needs JavaScript. The service explanation and scope boundaries below remain available. [Contact us to prepare an estimate](https://webvelopment.co.za/contact/).

## What changes this estimate

Use this estimator to outline an authenticated portal, dashboard or custom business application. The number of screens is only part of the scope: who can use each screen, which records they can see and what they can change also affect the work. Tell us what you use today and which task you want the portal to handle first. We can then review discovery, implementation, verification and ongoing operation alongside your selections.

## Describe a representative delivery

Bring one real task from beginning to end, including the records involved and the person who can check that the result is right. For example, a proposed customer portal might let a customer submit a request, view its status and download a document, while staff update the request. That example helps us identify user roles, sign-in requirements, record types and the actions each person needs. It is an illustration of scope, not a priced package.

Use the first-delivery option to choose a useful starting workflow. If later phases add dashboards, imports or other modules, list their dependencies and how you will check that they work separately. Quantities describe activities or units of work; they do not establish approved hours for those units. Selecting a plan does not give the work an approved fixed price.

## Separate application modules and permission boundaries

An authenticated portal is an application project with its own scope and pricing. In the module worksheet, identify roles, record types, document responsibilities and reporting views. For each record type, explain who can create, read, update or delete it. Connect each module to a delivery phase and a check that demonstrates the intended behaviour.

In the request example, “customer” needs a more precise definition: can someone see only their own requests, or every request from their organisation? Can staff edit a request after it closes? These distinctions matter when access depends on organisation, geography or record state. Security-sensitive records and exceptional permissions require discovery and human review.

Data quality affects both import effort and advanced reporting. If existing records feed the portal, bring a representative sample so the discussion covers missing fields and inconsistent values as well as the screens. Start with one coherent workflow. Its first phase should still include authentication, recovery and the operating responsibilities needed to use it safely.

## Hours, costs and assumptions

Confirmed labour is calculated at **R850 per hour excluding VAT**. Each selected quantity is multiplied by an approved hours-per-unit value. Base, discovery and complexity allowances need their own approval. Unapproved items remain **Custom quote required** and prevent a fixed total; they are never silently priced as zero.

Each labour line combines the selected quantity, the approved hours for that activity and the hourly rate. Two screens can involve very different work if their permissions and record rules differ, so a screen count alone cannot establish the hours. Keep unresolved items marked for a custom quote and review other modules, allowances and charges separately.

The initial ten-hour website allocation is specific to the existing website calculator. It is not automatically applied to this service. Where managed dedicated hosting is selected, the separately stated management allocation applies to the agreed management scope.

Once-off work and monthly commitments are shown independently. Content writing, SEO, subscriptions, platform usage, travel and other external charges are included only when explicitly approved and itemised. International display currency does not change the authoritative ZAR calculation or establish a tax exemption.

## Scope boundaries

- Do not imply the initial website package covers a full web application.

- Security-sensitive permissions need human review.

- Advanced reporting complexity depends on data quality.

## Use the plan to request an estimate

A few useful answers before you decide.

Use the plan to show us your proposed application modules and access boundaries. Before requesting a quotation, check that the selected scope covers the first workflow, the responsibilities needed to operate it and any unresolved amounts. Include the real task example so we can discuss what a successful first delivery would let people do. Your contact details stay separate from saved session selections. Payment milestones and quote validity require written confirmation.

The PDF request becomes available only when the secure quotation backend is configured; the page clearly indicates its current state.

### Why does this tool show custom quote required?

The commercial rate is confirmed, but a selected activity may not yet have approved unit hours or supplier charges. The tool retains the scope and identifies pending items instead of producing an incomplete fixed price. A reviewed proposal establishes those amounts.

### Is the result a binding quotation?

No. The scope and any known charges are indicative until reviewed and confirmed in writing. An issued PDF uses server-side calculation and identifies pending items, exclusions, tax treatment and custom payment terms.
