Website Maintenance Prices & Support Retainers
Plan website maintenance hours, responsibilities and requested support cover. Review labour at R850/hour excl. VAT, with unapproved costs clearly marked.
Configure your scopeA labour budget to start the conversation
For a monthly support budgeting exercise, assume 10 hours of agreed maintenance work. This is an adjustable example, not a published minimum for every care retainer.
10 assumed hours × R850/hour = R8,500 excluding VAT. This is a hypothetical planning allocation, not an approved package or a quote for your project.
Hosting infrastructure, paid licences, emergency availability and work beyond the agreed monthly allocation need separate approval. Discovery, build and ongoing operation need their own scope. Changing this allowance does not price the activities below or change an issued estimate.
Build a scope you can discuss.

Scope an uncertain project through discovery
Once-off and monthly charges are separate. Tax, supplier fees, validity and custom milestones need confirmation. Pending items are excluded from known charges.

What changes this estimate
A care retainer starts with the work your website needs each month and the responsibilities you want us to take on. Routine updates, backups, checks and requested changes may all draw on the same support-hour bank, so it helps to name those tasks before choosing quantities. Requested response cover also needs its own terms; choosing hours alone does not establish a maintenance SLA.
Describe the current environment and what you need help with. We can then review the selected tasks, their estimated effort and any ongoing operating requirements together.
Describe a representative delivery
Bring one real maintenance task: for example, an update you need applied and checked, or a content change awaiting approval. Include the site stack, site count, update frequency, backup arrangements and requested incident response window. Tell us who can approve the completed work, and record any access restrictions or other constraints in the tool.
Use the first-delivery option to identify a manageable starting task. If you need a broader programme, list the dependencies and the checks needed for each part. Quantities describe activities or units of work; the hours for each unit still need approval. Selecting a plan does not establish a fixed price.
Define the care arrangement before promising cover
Self-service, supported and managed arrangements describe different responsibilities; their names do not establish approved tiers or service levels. Decide which updates, backups, checks and support tasks you will handle and which you want us to price. A requested hour bank is subject to acceptance and does not guarantee availability.
The proposal must explain how work beyond the agreed hours is approved, whether unused time carries over and what a response window means. A commitment to respond is different from a guaranteed time to resolve a problem. These terms need agreement before you rely on the cover.
Ordinary website care does not automatically inherit the dedicated-server management minimum, and infrastructure is charged separately. Before accepting a recurring commitment, we need to establish the site’s current state, the access required and the recovery arrangements. That gives both sides a clearer picture of the work being taken on.
Hours, costs and assumptions
Confirmed labour is calculated at R850 per hour excluding VAT. Each selected quantity is multiplied by an approved hours-per-unit value. Base, discovery and complexity allowances need their own approval. Unapproved items remain Custom quote required and prevent a fixed total; they are never silently priced as zero.
For a monthly budgeting example, assume 10 hours of agreed maintenance work: 10 × R850 gives R8,500 excluding VAT in labour. You can adjust that assumption to discuss your needs; it is not a published minimum or an approved care package. Hosting infrastructure, paid licences, emergency availability and work beyond the agreed monthly allocation need separate approval.
The initial ten-hour website allocation is specific to the existing website calculator. It is not automatically applied to this service. Where managed dedicated hosting is selected, the separately stated management allocation applies to the agreed management scope.
Once-off work and monthly commitments are shown independently, so you can distinguish the cost of getting started from the recurring commitment. Content writing, SEO, subscriptions, platform usage, travel and other external charges are included only when explicitly approved and itemised. International display currency does not change the authoritative ZAR calculation or establish a tax exemption.
Scope boundaries
- The 10-hour server management minimum does not apply to all ordinary website care retainers.
- Excess-hour charges, unused-hour rollover and response SLA terms must be agreed before the arrangement is sold.
- Hosting infrastructure remains a separate charge.
Use the plan to request an estimate
A few useful answers before you decide.
The tool prepares a support coverage and policy checklist. Before requesting a quotation, check that it names the tasks you need, the responsibilities each side will hold and any amounts still awaiting approval. Include operating dependencies such as access or backup arrangements that could affect the proposed work. Your contact details stay separate from saved session selections. Payment milestones and quote validity require written confirmation.

Share the scope while you plan
Download a text brief or open an email draft from the interactive summary to share the choices you have made. The email action opens a draft in your email app; it does not send an online quotation request. Attach the downloaded brief and add your preferred contact details there for a fuller handover. Private PDF issuance remains conditional on a configured quotation service.
