Choose website design, UX, WordPress development or maintenance around your customer journey, publishing needs and the information you already have.

## Make the discipline serve the goal

Your website needs to help someone understand what you offer, decide whether it fits and take the next step. Your team also needs to keep that information accurate. We bring website design, UX, WordPress development and maintenance together around those needs.

Start with the difficulty you can point to: customers keep asking a question the site should answer, an enquiry is hard to complete, or a simple content update requires technical help. Each calls for a different kind of work.

## A practical delivery approach

We start with the pages and tasks that matter most. For a service business, that might mean reading a service description, checking relevant experience and sending an enquiry. We work with real content and review those steps on small and large screens, with input from the people who publish pages and handle enquiries.

Before implementation, we agree what will be produced, what you need to supply and how you will check it. A useful check might be whether an editor can update a service page without disturbing its layout. If the work also needs new copy, photography or an integration, we make that dependency clear in the scope.

## Choose the right starting point

You may need help with one part of your website rather than a complete rebuild. A clear offer with dated presentation points towards design work; a confusing route to an enquiry may need UX work first. If your challenge crosses these boundaries, a [digital strategy discussion](https://webvelopment.co.za/services/creative/digital-strategy/) can establish priorities before a larger investment. You can also [see our delivery process](https://webvelopment.co.za/about/our-process/) and understand how reviews and handover work.

## What to bring to a first conversation

Share your current website, what you want it to help the business do and any timing or budget limits. A few examples are especially useful: a page customers misunderstand, an update your team struggles to make, or an enquiry that arrives without the information you need.

Bring existing copy, images and details of connected systems where available. Tell us who approves content and who will edit the site. You do not need a finished specification for the first conversation; we can identify what is already clear and what needs investigation.

## Make the customer and publishing journeys agree

The details a visitor relies on are often the details your team changes. For example, a service page might need an explanation of the work, suitable project examples and an enquiry link. Someone must also be able to revise that explanation, replace an image and check the link after publishing.

We can begin with representative pages to test both sides. Alongside the service page, review a longer article or a page with several images if those are part of your content. This shows whether the proposed layouts accommodate your material and whether the editing tasks are manageable. A homepage alone cannot answer those questions.

## Choose the website workstream before choosing a platform

- Choose UX work when visitors struggle to find the right service or complete a task. Start by examining the navigation, information and steps involved.

- Choose design and content work when the offer is hard to explain or pages lack a clear order. Bring actual service copy and examples to shape the layouts.

- Include development when the editing process, integrations or technical foundation must change. Include maintenance when the site needs ongoing technical care, with responsibilities agreed before launch.

## Website service selection questions

A few useful answers before you decide.

### Should the first stage be UX or visual design?

If the task, navigation or information structure is uncertain, a UX stage may be useful before detailed styling. If the journey and content are already clear, visual design can proceed from that brief. We can use a representative task, such as finding the right service and making an enquiry, to decide what needs attention first.

### Is WordPress the right choice for every website?

No platform should be selected without considering publishing needs, integrations, ownership and maintenance. WordPress can be assessed when its editing model suits the team. Other implementations may fit a different brief. Tell us who publishes, how often content changes and what the site must connect to; those details make the platform discussion useful.

### What content needs to be ready before implementation?

Prepare enough approved material to establish page structure and realistic layouts. Identify facts, images and proof that are still missing, with responsible owners. Waiting until the end to replace placeholder material can change the design and delay acceptance. For a service page, bring the service explanation, the intended next step and any images or project evidence you have permission to use. We can then see what is missing before building the layout.

### How is replacing an existing site different from a new build?

A replacement needs an inventory of useful URLs, content, forms and integrations. Decide what is preserved, consolidated or retired and plan the relevant redirects. A new visual system does not remove those migration responsibilities. Release approval and recovery need to be agreed before the current site is changed.

### What happens when the site needs ongoing changes?

Agree which tasks editors can perform and which need technical support. Make sure your team knows who controls the accounts, who handles updates and where to send a new request. A maintenance plan may fit the business, but it must have a defined scope. Launch handover should not leave the team guessing who owns routine operations.

## Prepare your next conversation

Send us your current site and one thing you would like to make easier for customers or editors. With that starting point, we can discuss whether a review, redesign or implementation is the useful first step.
