Document work organised around a dashboard
Starting a document and finding one you were working on are both given space in the LawTem dashboard. A row of gold quick-draft buttons sits above four document previews, with the main navigation kept across the top. We find this a useful layout to discuss when a document application needs to serve both new work and returning users.
What you can inspect
- The Quick Draft row separates High Court, Magistrates’ Court, Other templates and My templates. The labels make the choice of starting point visible before a document is opened.
- Latest documents appear as page thumbnails with a filename below each preview. The repeated card layout gives recent work a consistent place on the dashboard.
- The My cases screen groups folders above recent documents. New folder, Import existing, Import new and Create new appear together above the folder area, making those entry points easy to compare.
- White content panels, a pale grey background and restrained gold accents distinguish navigation, actions and document content without filling the screen with competing colours.

What this means for a similar project
For your own document application, bring one representative template and describe how someone finds it, fills it in and returns to it later. For example, a useful walkthrough could start with choosing a template, continue through a draft and finish with finding that draft in the right folder. That gives us something concrete to discuss before expanding the list of screens.
We would also ask who can create, edit and retrieve documents, which fields drive a template and how versions should be preserved. Those decisions need to be specified alongside the screen layout.
